Artist or creative artist?
In this first special edition, we have decided to give space to images and to present a range of selected artists of different types: Graphic artists, photographers, designers and illustrators. From the more famous ones to the talented artists of the future, they all agreed to let us be the first to see their works. And although some of these works are already known in the professional world, you may not have seen them in such a large format before. The theme of this special edition also emphasizes the recognition of the graphical universe by “official” Art. The professions of visual creation have always been fashionable and are still so nowadays. Exhibitions in this area are increasingly more numerous and the places generally reserved for Art open their doors to this category labelled “creative.” Yet, the graphic artists, these creative artists, are still considered as second class. Some say: “the graphic artist’s mission is to pass on information using both images and typography. His objective is not to produce a work of art in itself but to create an image which will convey the required message.” This would mean that the artistic streak would no longer be a virtue, but a necessity, and that it would not be the form which mattered but the message that was to be transmitted. In the same way as a painter who expresses himself through his art. The difficulty, however, for a graphic artist resides in the conflict between the constraints imposed on him by a public or private sponsor and his artistic instincts. He must therefore possess both an artistic mind and a real sense of communication. So, artist or creative artist? I would say both. It is good to cultivate this duality, even if there is a price to pay.

Results of the competition “HS05”
For this first competition, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality and quantity of the works submitted. The choice was not easy, but we finally decided on Allister Lee’s project. Our selection criteria were based on the project’s originality, its aesthetism and visual tensions relative to the given theme. Representing one hundred different felt-tip pens organised in four lines of twenty-five reevaluates the essential basic tool for expressing an idea within a well-defined framework. Each felt-tip pen represents an idea, an experience or a personal goal. Please have a look at the projects submitted for the "HS05" competition for the cover of the special edition 2005.

So this first competition has been very successful, and I think that next year’s competition promises to be even better. Our thanks to all the competitors on behalf of the idpure team, and congratulations on your creativity!

NOTE: We look forward to receiving your comments and suggestions. On our side we will do our very best to ensure that idpure becomes essential to your inspiration.
