The primal act
It’s true that it’s trendy to say trend, and you can’t escape this – unless you are one of those people who live handcuffed to their workstation and think that the endless hours spent in front of their screen stimulate their imagination. But we also have to realize that although this tool enables us to be prolific, it is on the other hand not so helpful when we have to go beyond what is imposed on us. Because there will always be a trend ahead of every one of us. As they often originate from the past – the history of art which we are taught – it is often the starting point which gives us the diversity of practices and which shapes our artistic landscape. An inexhaustible source, inescapable, which feeds our creative work while establishing meaningful links between certain artistic trends, from their origin to our times. All through the years, certain events also serve as reference points, like a primal act which marks its era, that you take, divert, which enables us to discover and become familiar with styles and important artistic trends. To summarize: a trend is a movement, an intention, that of our culture, our society, our country, or our neighborhood. It’s the use of a dynamic space, an updated reminder of the past whose aim is to please the present by contributing new techniques and developing new visual languages. So, if you are told that there is “a lot of trend to do,” it’s because we are asked to produce more and it is our role to serve you more, whereas your role is to draw inspiration from it while knowing how to fashion it.
